Summaries

Kim Whaley and Amy Earle defeated England's Trina Gulliver and Clare Bywaters 4-3 in their first match of the Women's Pairs Round Robin event at World Cup XIV. The Canadian women who are in Group C have matches upcoming against Gibraltar and Brazil.

The men are waiting for their first action in the Team event. They were placed in Group H with Sweden, Greece, France, and Gibraltor.

The Canadian Women defeated Gibraltar 4-0 to remain undefeated with a 2-0 record in Group C. Their final match in the round robin will be against Brazil.

Whaley and Earle finished round robin play with a 4-0 win over Brazil to top their group and advance to the last sixteen. They defeated Switzerland 4-2 and Norway 4-3 to make it to the semi-finals. The Netherlands pair of Francisca Hoenselaar and Karin Krappen defeated the Canadian pair 4-1 and advanced to the finals to face England.

The men's four person team finished with a 2 and 2 record defeating France 9-7 and Greece 9-3. Their two losses came at the hands of Sweden 9-7 and Gibraltar 9-5. Sweden and Gibraltar both advanced to the last 16

In Men's Singles Gerry Convery and Norm Tremblay both won their first matches to advance to the next round. Convery defeated John Sandaker from Norway 4-3 while Tremblay scored a 4-0 win over Sweden's Stefan Nagy. Tim Bradley lost 4-1 to Peter Johns from Wales and Marcel Simard was defeated by Gary Anderson of Scotland 4-0.

Gerry Convery won 4-2 over Albertino Essers from the Netherlands and came up against Mervyn King from England losing 4-1. Norm Tremblay also won his second match in Men's Singles over the Republic of Ireland's Sean McGowan 4-3 before losing to Raymond Barneveld from the Netherlands 4-0 who went on to the finals.

In Womens Singles Amy Earle defeated Latvia's Elena Kapostina 4-0 before losing 4-1 to Yukari Nishikawa from Japan. Kim Whaley won 4-2 over New Zealand's Jannette Jonathan and then lost in the second round to Anastasia Dobromyslova from Russia in a close 4-3 match. Both the mens and womens singles events were single elimination knockout.

In the Men's Pairs event Canada's Gerry Convery and Tim Bradley defeated Stefan Nagy and Ronny Röhr from Sweden 4-3. In their next match against Austria's Franz Thaler and Alex Fladerer the Canadian pair were eliminated by a 4-0 score. The other men's pair of Marcel Simard and Norm Tremblay were narrowly defeated 4-3 by Austria's Günther Rimser and August Jost in their first match.
